Welcome to Preston Middle School's Athletic Program

Preston offers a variety of sports for our students. 6th graders can participate in cross country, golf*, tennis*, track, and wrestling. 7th & 8th graders can participate in the above sports as well as football, volleyball*, soccer*, basketball* and softball. * denotes a cut sport, meaning that students may be cut from the sport when numbers of those wanting to participate are higher than spots available on the teams.

Eligibility Requirements to Participate in Sports

In order to participate in a sport at Preston, students are required to submit the following:

1. A current sports physical on file is required to participate in sports. The form can be found in the Documents section on left side of this webpage.
   1. The form must be signed by a doctor and state that the student is cleared to play sports.
   2. All physicals are valid for 365 days and expire one year from the original date of the exam.  Please ensure the exam date is listed on the form.
2. Register for the sport. More information will be coming in July regarding this process.
3. Pay/waive the athletic fee.
   1. A $150 Athletic Participation Fee is required for each sport played.  
   2. Payments are due prior to the first day of practice/tryouts.
   3. ​Payments can be made online via SchoolPay or in the Preston main office. 
   4. For cut sports - refunds will be issued for students who do not make the final roster.
   5. If a student chooses to quit a sport, the following PSD refund policy will be followed:
      1. Full Refund - For athletes who participate 5 days or less in a sport.
      2. 1/2 Refund - For athletes who participate in more than 5 days of practice, before the first competition/game.
   6. Do you qualify for waived fees?  Please contact the office for more information on waived fees.
   7. Non-Preston Students: Pay the athletic fee to the office manager in person or by calling the front office to pay over the phone. The athletic fee for non-Preston students is $220.

Non-Preston Students: *Home school students or students who attend a school that does not offer middle school athletics will be placed upon request per the PSD Placement Guidelines.  Interested parents must contact the PSD Athletic office at 970-490-3332 to request formal athletic placement.  PSD will email the acceptance letter to the parent and Preston's athletic office.

Does your student need a sports physical and you don't have a Primary Care Physician or are having trouble getting an appointment? The Health & Wellness Centers (operated by Every Child Pediatrics) is OPEN and appointments are AVAILABLE for ANY PSD student for Sports Physicals.  Please make an appt by calling 970-488-4900 or clicking on this link: Health & Wellness.  Clinics are located on PSD school grounds in two locations:   

1. Lincoln Middle School  

2. Centennial High School
