Biographical Sketch:
I was born in Fort Collins, Colorado, and have lived here ever since. I began playing the Cello when I was twelve at Blevins Middle School and haven't stopped loving it for over a decade. I enjoy spending time with my parents, two older sisters, and especially my young nephew and niece.
Education Background:
I am a product of PSD, going through Olander, Blevins, and Rocky Mountain High School. I graduated with my B.A. in Music Education and Cello Performance/Pedagogy from Colorado State University in December of 2019. While at CSU, I performed with the CSU Symphony, Sinfonia, Opera, and in the Chamber Music Program. In addition to performing, I took joy in teaching through CSU's Middle School Outreach Ensemble as well as the Cello Pedagogy Program. After teaching for three years at Preston, I began a Master of Music program at CSU and will finish in the summer of 2025. This will be my fifth year of teaching Orchestra at Preston and my third year teaching Band at Preston, and I couldn't be more excited!
Why I enjoy teaching:
I knew I wanted to become a music teacher through my experience in the orchestras at Rocky Mountain High School. I discovered a love for sharing music and teaching others to communicate through music performance. I teach so my students are able to understand the world through music and express themselves by performing on their instruments.
Favorite Books:
I love to read fantasy books. My favorites would be the Harry Potter collection as well as The Lord of the Rings.
Interests & Hobbies:
Growing up in Colorado, I love almost any outside activity. My favorites are camping, backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and disc golf. When not outside, I love to practice Cello, perform Chamber Music, and spend time with my family.
Courses Taught:
I teach Beginning Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra, Beginning Band, Symphonic Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Jazz Band.
About my Classroom:
Students in my classroom work hard and collaborate to accomplish their goals. My hope for all the students is to develop as musicians, listen for what music is expressing, and relate to music across genres and centuries. Students will develop as musicians through instrumental technique, ear training, music theory, and music history. In the end, students will leave my classroom with a love for and a deeper understanding of music.
