Biographical Sketch:
I am originally from Pueblo, Colorado, moved to Fort Collins to attend CSU in 2009, and loved it here so much that I stayed! Last September, my husband and I welcomed our daughter, Hayes!
Education Background:
I graduated from CSU with my Bachelor's in Science Education with a focus on Biology, and finished my Masters in Teaching Curriculum and Philosophy through Arkansas State University. This is my 9th year teaching at Preston and I love it!
Why I enjoy teaching at Preston?
7th grade Science is my absolute favorite class to teach! I love learning new things every day, meeting fantastic students, getting to share my passion for science, and working with the most amazing staff in the world. I am SO excited to see the new opportunities that this year brings!
Favorite Books:
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (this is a great Science and Ethics read if you are interested!)
Interests & Hobbies:
I love to hike, camp, and travel as much as possible. When there is not a global pandemic, I like to take a month or more of summer to travel to a new country. In the winter I love snowshoeing, yurt trips, and spending time on puzzles.
Courses Taught:
I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science here at Preston (but 7th is my favorite!) I also teach Zoology and Psychology as Science Elective classes.
About my classroom:
Every single one of you is already a scientist. My goal is to work with you to strengthen your skills in critical thinking, collaboration, asking great questions, and problem solving. I personally find Biology to be the most fascinating subject and my goal is to share that with you! My classroom is a place where you are safe to make mistakes, try new things, ask "why are we learning this?", and challenge both yourself and me! I love working with 7th graders and getting to know about all of the amazing qualities each of you has to offer! I can't wait to get to know you!
