Biographical Sketch/Educational Background:
I grew up in Loveland and I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from UNC in Greeley. I spent my first three years teaching in Lincoln, Nebraska and I then moved to Highlands Ranch and I taught for Douglas County schools for several years. In 2008, our family moved to Fort Collins and I began teaching in Poudre School District. I earned a Master's degree from Arkansas State University in 2013. My son graduated from CSU in 2019 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and my twin girls graduated in December 2021 with their Nursing degrees. One works at UC Health Greeley and the other works on the Anschutz campus in Aurora.
I spent my early years teaching at the elementary level and moved to middle school twelve years ago. I found as my own children grew, I wanted to teach older kids. I have experience teaching grades K, 1, 2, 4 6 and 7. This will be my twelth year teaching at Preston.
Why I enjoy teaching:
Both my parents were teachers and I realized very early in my life that I wanted to be a part of the educational system. I spent many hours playing school in my mom’s classroom and running around the Loveland High School gym while my dad coached the basketball team. Teaching is in my blood..
Favorite Books:
I love to read “beach books” in my spare time. I like to escape and I love happy endings. This summer I stepped outside of my comfort zone and I fell in love with Historical Fiction.
Interests and Hobbies:
I enjoy running, spending time with my family and working on projects around my house. I love to cook and bake. This spring, I became obsessed with baking bread!
My Classroom:
I teach both 6th and 7th Grade English at Preston and love it! I have always enjoyed working with kids. One word that describes my classroom is comfortable. I have several chairs and a couch in my room so kids can curl up and get lost in a book. I love teaching English and sharing my passion for reading with my students. You will often catch me sitting on the floor enjoying a good book with my kids. :-)
