Aviation Exploration: A Learning Together Workshop

Join us in this introduction to flying course. Together we will explore the phases of flying on a flight simulator and visit the Loveland airport where students and adults will meet flight instructors, view aircraft and enjoy lunch in the hangar. In support of our mission: CREATING THE CONDITIONS TO MAKE OUR WORLD BETTER, Preston Middle School is implementing a social-emotional learning program called Expect Respect.  Expect Respect consists of four core lessons that teachers will be presenting throughout the  2017-2018 school year.  Expect Respect focuses on social climate and teaches students the core values of respect, safety, and responsibility.  If you have any questions please contact Krista Summers at or call 488-7305.

Upcoming Trips 



JUNE 3 – 8, 2019

Parents and students pack up your snorkel gear and join us for an Oceanography Trip in Bermuda!  We will take ten parent/student pairs to Bermuda for a week of science fun and learning exploring the ocean environment of Bermuda while staying at the BIOS (Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences) site.  Everything is included in the cost:  rooms, food, transportation on the island, admission fees, and instructor costs

Parents and students will get to participate in all activities as we learn about the history of Bermuda and experience the animals/plants found on land and in the sea.  Snorkeling, kayaking, caving, tide pooling, exploring a beautiful island with all its scientific and historical wonders, it’s all included!  Cost is $1500 per person plus airfare.

The Book Fair 

The Book Fair will be arriving at Preston's Media Center the week of October 15-18.  The Fair will be open before and after school, during lunch periods, as well as during parent/teacher conferences on the 16th and 18th.  If you can't make it to the Fair or want something not in stock at the Fair, you can shop online from October 6-26.  Check out this link for more details:  Don't forget that books make great gifts, and all purchases benefit our school!  If you'd like to volunteer, please click on the link listed below.

NEW!!   Lacrosse

We are excited to introduce a Lacrosse Club at Preston Middle School this year! (2018)

The Club is open to all students 6th-8th grade, from beginner-experienced players.

Time:  Tuesday's and Thursday's  from 3:00-5:00pm starting October 23rd and ending November 15th at Preston.

The curriculum will be taught by Rocky Mountain High School Men's and Women's Lacrosse coaches and players. In order to get the full lacrosse experience, coaches would like players to commit to attending all 8 sessions, as we will be building skills and learning new concepts each day. If your child cannot attend all of the sessions but would still like to participate in the program, please contact one of the coaches.

Gear will be available for beginners. Experienced players should bring their personal gear.

Would you like to share your STEM related career with our current sixth grade students? We are looking for parent volunteers to share their passion and expertise with our students. If this opportunity interests you please continue reading and fill out the Google Form. Thank you!

What would the time-frame look like as a presenter?

Share your career for 10-15 minutes- What advice would you give yourself if you were in middle school? Talk with students about the path you took to get to your current position, share the joys and challenges of your job, explain your daily responsibilities.
10 minutes- questions and/or hands on demonstration, visuals or hands-on activities increase student engagement

Preston's Love and Logic Parenting Support Group: 

Parenting is HARD WORK!  And you are not alone: plan to join us Fall of 2017 on Friday mornings.  We will meet twice a month to discuss parenting strategies and provide support for each other through discussion.  Love and Logic strategies will be outlined, and specific situations can be discussed in a confidential setting.  Meetings will begin in early September; keep your eye out for a schedule of meeting dates in the fall.  Questions?  Email Jill Simpson at jsimpson@psdschools.  Please note that the times are different for each meeting.

We will meet at the Lory State Park Visitor Center at 1:00pm, and plan to return to the visitor center at 2:30pm
Advanced riders will ride Timber to Kimmons and some Valley trails
Beginner riders will ride the East Valley and West Valley trails
Parents are encouraged to ride with us, but it is not mandatory


Horsetooth Moonlight Hike   Permission Slip HERE

1. The Outing Club will meet at Horsetooth Mtn park October 25, 2018@ 5:00pm.

2. Parents will provide transportation to and from the hike.

3. The hike will be free, but htere is a $7 fee for parking if you do not have a Larimer county Parks pass.

4. Students will be able to call parents from the service road on the hike down to inform parents of their ETA. In the past we have finished between 8:00-9:00pm. 

5. Please email Dan Lowndes at or Mrs. Benton at if you have any questions or concerns about the hike.

6. Please bring extra clothes if it cools off when the sun goes down, water, a snack and a flashlight for the hike. 


Preston's Multi-day Whitewater Rafting Trip

Trip Location: Upper Colorado, Class II and Class III whitewater
Put in at Pump House near Kremmling, CO
Take out at State Bridge

Dates: June 11, 12, 13, 2019

Approximate trip cost: $400-$500; we will keep the cost as low as possible. The cost is dependent on number of duckies, wetsuits, students, etc.


Mr. Lowndes and Mrs. Benton will be taking 20 Preston Students. Students must be in 7th or 8th grade.
We will be working with the Fort Collins based rafting company - Rocky Mountain Adventures who partners with MAD Adventures in Kremmling, CO.
Students will need the following gear: sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camp chair, and clothing, etc for the river/caming. We will go over an extensive packing list once we know who is commited to the trip.

 How do parents/guardians complete PSD required forms for some processes involved in Student Check-In or Registration? 

PSD has transitioned to electronic signatures and forms for some processes involved in student registration paperwork completed before school starts. Please click here to read the email that was sent to PSD families in regard to the information pertaining to specific registration documents that are now available electronically.

What can you expect if you are a parent of a 6th grade student or of a child new to PSD/Preston?
All 6th grade and new students to PSD/Preston MS will bring home a PSD Provided Device User Agreement at the end of the first day of school.  Please click here to learn more about our PSD 1:1 Computer Laptops. If your 7th or 8th grade child attended a different PSD middle school last year, he/she will not need to pay the one-time laptop fee or sign the user agreement again.

What if you want to opt your child out of any PSD media?

How do I pay athletic participation fees and/or class fees?
PSD offers online payments for athletic participation fees, class fees, field trips, and other charges through SchoolPay.  Preston parents have the option to pay fees while at Preston or in the convenience of their home through the online payment portal SchoolPay.
